Your First Week, Step by Step in Derry
September 12, 2026 — Breathe CrossFIt
September in Derry is when people decide to start. Kids are back in school, the mornings are cool again, and the summer “I’ll get to it later” excuse has run out. If that’s you, here’s exactly what your first week here looks like — no surprises.
What happens before any workout
You do not walk in off the street and get thrown into a workout. Your first appointment is called a No Sweat Intro, and it’s free. The name is literal: you don’t train, you don’t sweat, you sit down with us and talk.
We talk about you and your goals, figure out what success looks like to you, and map out how to get there. That’s it. If you’re coming back from an injury, a pregnancy, a decade off, or you’ve simply never touched a barbell — that’s the conversation, not a test you can fail. By the end you’ll know what starting here would actually look like for you, including what it costs, which you can also see on our pricing page.
Your first class
Our CrossFit classes are coach-led, 60 minutes, and run between 5 and 15 people. They’re high intensity workouts focused on strength and conditioning — but intensity is relative to you, not to the fittest person in the room. A coach is there the whole hour, watching, correcting, and adjusting.
The rule we train by is technique before speed and load. That means your first weeks are about learning to move well. Lighter weight, fewer reps, a different version of the movement — that’s not a consolation prize, that’s the program working the way it’s supposed to.
One member wrote in a Google review: “Trying a new gym—especially something like CrossFit—can be really intimidating, but at Breathe from day one, the atmosphere is welcoming and genuinely beginner-friendly, which makes it so much easier to get started without feeling overwhelmed. For newbies they work with you one on one to start to give you a chance to get comfortable, understand the structure, and build confidence before jumping into group classes.”
What nobody tells you
Nobody is watching you. The person next to you is counting their own reps and thinking about their own breathing. Another member put it this way in a review: “No one acts like they’re better than anyone els…”
Second thing: you don’t have to figure out the food part alone either. Our nutrition coaching is built to help you make better food choices without the overwhelm — habits, energy, confidence, not a list of rules.
Third: this fits into a real life. As one member wrote, “As a busy mom of two, it has become such an important and rewarding outlet for me.” We’re open Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 7:00pm, and we check in with members regularly and adjust the plan when it needs adjusting.
How to start
One conversation. That’s the whole ask. Book your free No Sweat Intro and we’ll take it from there — start here or read a bit more about us first if you’d rather.
You’ll be glad you stopped thinking about it in September instead of January.
