What a CrossFit Class Here Looks Like

September 13, 2026 — Breathe CrossFIt

September in Derry means the 5am crew is walking in under a dark sky again and the 6pm crew is leaving in one. Good time to answer the question we get most: what actually happens in a CrossFit class at Breathe, and is it for someone like me?

What a class actually looks like

One hour, start to finish. A coach leads the whole thing — you are not handed a workout and left to figure it out in the corner. Class sizes run between 5 and 15 people, which is small enough that the coach knows your name, knows what you were working on last week, and can get to you when something doesn’t look right.

The session is built around strength and conditioning, and yes, it’s high intensity. But intensity is the last thing we add, not the first. Our rule doesn’t change: move well before you move fast or heavy. If a barbell isn’t the right tool for you today, the coach changes the tool. That’s not a special favor, that’s the job.

Classes run Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 7:00pm, so there’s room for early risers, lunch breaks, and after-work.

Who it’s for

People who want a coach-led hour of strength and conditioning and would rather show up than plan it themselves.

That covers more people than you’d think. One member wrote in a Google review: “Coaches are amazing. Safe and welcoming environment for all skills levels. Personally, I’ve trained for general health, basic combat training and then pregnancy. Haven’t made it back since having my baby but when I do, baby’s are more than welcome! There is truly something for everyone to do at whatever stage of life you’re in!”

Another member put it this way: “As a busy mom of two, it has become such an important and rewarding outlet for me.”

The myth worth killing

That you need to be fit, or experienced, or know what you’re doing before you walk in.

A member wrote: “Trying a new gym—especially something like CrossFit—can be really intimidating, but at Breathe from day one, the atmosphere is welcoming and genuinely beginner-friendly, which makes it so much easier to get started without feeling overwhelmed. For newbies they work with you one on one to start to give you a chance to get comfortable, understand the structure, and build confidence before jumping into group classes.”

Another said it plainer: “I’ve always struggled in the gym with not knowing what to do and it’s great to have someone like Toni and a gym like Breathe where it’s okay to not know and there’s no awkwardness asking for help.”

We have a 5-star rating across 142 reviews. The word that shows up again and again isn’t “hardcore.” It’s “welcoming.”

How it fits with everything else

Group class is the backbone. Personal training exists for goals that need one-on-one attention. Nutrition handles the part that happens outside the gym — building habits and energy without the overwhelm. Most people start with class and add from there, and we check in regularly to see how it’s going and adjust when it needs adjusting.
