What CrossFit at Breathe Really Is

September 12, 2026 — Breathe CrossFIt

If you’ve driven past us in Derry and wondered what actually goes on in here, this one’s for you. September is when people start looking for something steadier than summer — school’s back, the mornings are cooler, and the 5am lights are on again. So here’s a straight answer about our group CrossFit classes: what they are, who they’re for, and what they’re not.

What a class actually looks like

One hour. Coach-led, start to finish. Somewhere between 5 and 15 people on the floor with you. The work is high intensity and built around strength and conditioning — you’ll lift, you’ll breathe hard, you’ll be done in sixty minutes.

The part that matters most: every class is coached. That’s not a coach pressing play on a timer and walking away. It means someone is watching how you move and adjusting what you’re doing so it fits you that day. We care more about moving well than moving fast and heavy, and that’s not a slogan we keep for beginners — it’s the standard for everyone. We check in with members regularly, adjust when we need to, and share everyone’s wins each week in our members-only Facebook group.

Classes run Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 7:00pm, so there’s usually a slot that fits around work and school pickup.

Who it’s for

People who want to be coached rather than left alone. People who do better with other humans in the room. And, honestly, a lot of people who were nervous walking in.

One member wrote in a Google review: “Trying a new gym—especially something like CrossFit—can be really intimidating, but at Breathe from day one, the atmosphere is welcoming and genuinely beginner-friendly, which makes it so much easier to get started without feeling overwhelmed. For newbies they work with you one on one to start to give you a chance to get comfortable, understand the structure, and build confidence before jumping into group classes.”

Another put it this way: “Coaches are amazing. Safe and welcoming environment for all skills levels. Personally, I’ve trained for general health, basic combat training and then pregnancy… There is truly something for everyone to do at whatever stage of life you’re in!”

The myth worth killing

The myth is that you need to get in shape before you come to CrossFit. Our reviews say otherwise, over and over. One member wrote: “I joined Breathe last fall, and it has truly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I had never tried CrossFit before… As a busy mom of two, it has become such an important and rewarding outlet for me.” Never tried it. Joined anyway. That’s the normal path here, not the exception — and it’s a decent part of why we sit at a 5-star rating across 142 reviews.

How it fits with everything else

Group class is the backbone. Personal Training is there when your goals need one-on-one attention. Nutrition coaching handles the part of the day the gym doesn’t — building healthy habits and better energy without the overwhelm. Plenty of members use one, some use all three.
