Your First Week, Start to Finish
September 12, 2026 — Breathe CrossFIt
September in Derry is when people finally decide to do something. The kids are back in school, the mornings are cool again, and the summer “I’ll start in the fall” has run out of road. If that’s you, and the idea of walking into a CrossFit gym makes your stomach drop a little, this is what your first week here actually looks like.
What happens before any workout
Nothing. That’s the honest answer. Your first appointment with us is called a No Sweat Intro, and the name is literal — you don’t train, you don’t get tested, you don’t change your shoes. We sit down, you tell us what you’re after and what your history is, we show you the gym, and we tell you what we’d recommend. It’s free. If it’s not a fit, you leave and we shake hands.
For people who are brand new to training, we don’t throw you straight into the deep end after that. As one member wrote in a Google review: “For newbies they work with you one on one to start to give you a chance to get comfortable, understand the structure, and build confidence before jumping into group classes.”
Your first class
A class is 60 minutes, coach-led, usually 5 to 15 people in an 8,000 square foot open-concept room. The coach runs the warm-up, teaches the movements, and tells you what to do and when. You are never left standing there guessing.
The workout on the whiteboard is the same for everyone — what changes is the weight on your bar, the height of the box, the number of reps. That’s the job of the coach, and it happens before you start, not after you fail. Another member put it this way: “Coaches are amazing. Safe and welcoming environment for all skills levels.”
We run Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., so there’s a class before work, at lunch, or after pickup.
What nobody tells you
The first two weeks you will be slower than you want to be, and you will be sore in places you forgot existed. Everybody was. Nobody in the room is watching you — they’re watching the clock.
You’ll also find that the part that keeps you coming back isn’t the fitness. A member of two years wrote: “The community is hands down the best part. No one acts like they’re better than anyone els…” Another, who joined last fall: “As a busy mom of two, it has become such an important and rewarding outlet for me.”
And we stay on top of it. We check in with members regularly to make sure you’re happy with your progress, adjust the plan when it needs adjusting, and post the week’s wins in our members-only Facebook group.
How to start
One step. Book the No Sweat Intro, come in, sit down with a coach, and find out whether this is right for you before you commit to anything. You can look at pricing first if you’d like, or read more about us — but the conversation is where it actually starts.
Book your No Sweat Intro and we’ll see you in Derry.
