What Our CrossFit Classes Really Are

September 12, 2026 — Breathe CrossFIt

September in Derry means the mornings are darker, the schedules are back to normal, and a lot of people are finally ready to do something about the thing they’ve been putting off since June. So let’s talk plainly about our CrossFit classes: what an hour actually looks like, who they’re built for, and the one myth we’d happily bury.

What a class actually looks like

Sixty minutes, start to finish, with a coach leading the whole thing. Group sizes run between 5 and 15 people, so you’re never a face in a crowd of forty — the coach knows your name and knows what you’re working on. The session is a high-intensity workout focused on strength and conditioning, and the order of operations never changes: technique before speed, technique before load. You learn the movement properly, then you earn the right to go faster and heavier.

We’re open Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., so whether you’re training before the house wakes up or after pickup, there’s an hour that fits. And we check in with members regularly — if the plan needs adjusting, we adjust it. Wins get shared every week in our members-only Facebook group.

Who it’s for

People at every stage of life. That’s not a marketing line — it’s what our members say. One member wrote in a Google review: “Coaches are amazing. Safe and welcoming environment for all skills levels. Personally, I’ve trained for general health, basic combat training and then pregnancy… There is truly something for everyone to do at whatever stage of life you’re in!”

Another member put it this way: “As a busy mom of two, it has become such an important and rewarding outlet for me.” If you’ve got an hour and a reason, you fit here.

The myth worth killing

The myth is that CrossFit is for people who are already fit — that you need a base before you show up. Our members keep saying otherwise. One wrote in a Google review: “Trying a new gym—especially something like CrossFit—can be really intimidating, but at Breathe from day one, the atmosphere is welcoming and genuinely beginner-friendly.” The same review notes: “For newbies they work with you one on one to start to give you a chance to get comfortable, understand the structure, and build confidence before jumping into group classes.”

That’s the whole point. Nobody gets thrown into the deep end. And as another long-term member wrote after more than two years: “The community is hands down the best part. No one acts like they’re better than anyone els…”

How it connects to everything else

Group class is the backbone, but it isn’t the only tool. Personal training is one-on-one work built around your goals — useful if you want focused time on a specific movement or you’d rather start outside a group setting. Nutrition coaching helps you build healthy habits and improve energy without the overwhelm, which is usually what makes training actually stick.
